About the Initiative

PeaceTech in Action is a pioneering initiative harnessing science and technology to counteract all forms of violence and foster sustainable peace. Developed based on a collaboration between with the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR) and EPFL, via its EssentialTech Center, the initiative aims to address real-world challenges and shape approaches grounded in tangible needs.

How We Work

PeaceTech in Action collaborates with real-world organizations to develop approaches that align with their field expertise. Through structured engagement, we:

  • Identify Pressing Challenges – Working with the UN and other key actors to define urgent needs.
  • Mobilize Scientific & Technical Expertise – Engaging researchers in Sciences, Technology, Engineering and Maths, and in collaboration with complementary scientific disciplines.
  • Facilitate Knowledge Transfer – Ensuring practical application of innovative methods.
  • Strengthen Long-Term Capacity – Embedding technology in peace-oriented efforts sustainably
